Pet owners urged to vaccinate their animals

All pet owners are urged to make use of the free rabies clinics, as having their animals vaccinated is a legal obligation

To combat the province-wide rabies outbreak, an intensive rabies vaccination campaign was this week launched in the King Cetshwayo district.

The programme, conducted by the Department of Agriculture, will run from 10 to 28 May.

From the beginning of the year until now, the King Cetshwayo district has recorded 27 confirmed positive rabies cases.

The Covid-19 pandemic and associated lockdown interrupted the mass rabies campaigns that were held regularly, but since the country is on alert Level 1, the programme was given the green light to resume.

All pet owners are urged to make use of the free rabies clinics, as having their animals vaccinated is a legal obligation.
