Hard at work to leave only her footprints on the planet and keep beaches free of litter, eight-year-old Mtunzini resident, Skylar Upfold is continuing to champion nature conservation through her project, ‘Skylar’s Save Our Planet Beach Cleanups’.

Running her campaigns successfully for the past three years, Skylar recently held an event at Mtunzini’s main beach, with support from Mtunzini Conservancy, East Toyota eShowe, Mtunzini Spar, Mtunzini Round Table, Nick Maitland from Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Honorary Officers, and members of the public who joined in from near and far.
The dedicated team walked over five kilometres and collected more than 1 000kg of waste.
Skylar said that while they have had much success with the campaigns, sadly, plastic and rubbish remain a concern on the beaches, greenbelts and forests.
