Help needed for Izulu Orphan Projects

Community urged to help maintain the NPO

IZULU Orphan Projects is reaching out to the wider community for support of the many life-changing programmes the NPO runs.

One such project is the Two Rand Savings programme, which consists of 48 groups of 20 women who meet once a week to contribute R2 towards the programme.

This has had a massive impact on these women’s lives, allowing them to build savings, community trust and social capital, with some groups having saved more than R11 500.

Another programme that needs urgent public support is Izulu Orphan Projects’ education fund. This goes towards buying school uniforms, paying for school fees, transport and food for the disabled children, as well as paying for fees, residencies and tertiary institutions.

‘The success of this fund is evidenced by the many children thriving through the project,’ said Kate Bain, founder of Izulu Orphan Project.

‘Among them are two brothers – both autistic – who arrived at Izulu Orphan Projects in 2016. Unable to speak, they weren’t attending school, but with the support and love shown at Izulu, both are now enthusiastic, talkative youngsters enjoying school.’

Now 10 years in existence, the Izulu Orphan Project Centre is in need of maintenance, with three buildings requiring urgent repairs. These include:
– Replacement of a classroom roof pitch and ceiling, which collapsed last year: R208 276.46
– Replacement of the crèche roof:
R144 185.66
– Reinforcement of roof structure and fixing of walls in the garage and store room: R84 993.18

‘Izulu Orphan Projects extends its gratitude to the public for the continued donations that enable them to reach those in desperate need,’ said Kate.
