Zulu monarch’s sad passing mourned

At 72 years of age, King Zwelithini made history as the longest-serving monarch of the Zulu kingdom - with a reign spanning over five decades.

The Zululand Observer joins the entire country and especially the citizens of KwaZulu-Natal in mourning the passing of His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuZulu, King of the Zulu nation.

His passing was announced a short while ago by Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, Traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu monarch.

The King, a diabetic, who had been under observation at an Empangeni private hospital for a lengthy period of time, subsequently passed away in the early hours of this morning.

‘On behalf of the Royal family, we thank the nation for your continued prayers and support in this most difficult time. May His Majesty, our King rest in peace,’ said Prince Buthelezi.
