WATCH: Phila lets his fingers do the talking

Living life one musical note at a time

SELF-TAUGHT pianist and keyboard player, Philangezwi Zondi, recently impressed his teachers with his musical talent after being caught playing imaginary piano on his desk during class once he’s finished his schoolwork.

‘I noticed that Phila sits and plays imaginary piano whenever he gets a gap in the classroom,’ explained St Catherine’s School Grade 2 teacher, Teressa Springorum.

‘On further investigation, it turned out that young Phila started playing piano at age seven, growing up in a musical household and watching his brother Siphelile (19) play.

‘Without a single formal lesson, Phila is already playing intricate chords and composing his own tunes,’ said Springorum. This has not gone unnoticed by his music teacher Bongani Ndlovu, who is now working with the youngster to further develop his talent.
