‘Even though our municipality is not mandated to build houses for residents, we took the decision to go out and seek donations from local business people to assist this family,’ said Ntshangase.

‘We always used to do this for needy families requiring urgent assistance.

‘Our plan is to build a two-room house for them, which is an urgent project as the family now does not have a structure to use as a house.

‘We bought all necessary building materials, and the construction of the house is expected to be completed during the course of the coming week.

‘We also bought groceries for them as they are struggling to make ends meet.’

Local ward councillor, Jomo Ngema applauded the efforts of Mayor Ntshangase and the Ulundi municipal council for treating the matter with urgency.

‘I am delighted about our mayor’s decision to prioritise this family. Luckily, none of the family members were injured when their home collapsed,’ Ngema said.

A tearful beneficiary, Sholiphi Sangweni, said she was grateful to see the determination of the mayor to rescue her family from their ordeal.
