Register as a stem cell donor

If you're aged between 18 and 55 and are in general good health, you can register to become a stem cell donor today

IN celebration of National Donor Day on Sunday 14 February, South Africans were urged to sign up as stem cell donors so that a more ethnically diverse registry can be achieved, and life-saving stem cell transplants can continue.

To commemorate National Donor Day, the Sunflower Fund, in partnership with DKMS (the world’s largest bone marrow donor centre), paid tribute to donors who have already given the gift of life.

The Sunflower Fund aims to recruit more than 15 000 donors in 2021, thereby increasing its registry of 77 000 registered South Africans aged 18 to 55 years.

Stem cell transplants effectively cure more than 70 diseases, including leukemia, lymphoma, and sickle cell anemia.
