CPF seeks business help for police station resources

'The fact is that service levels and the ability to protect us as citizens is being severely hampered by a lack of resources'

WITH buy-in from the business sector, the Arbovlei Community Policing Forum intends making a positive difference to service delivery at the Richards Bay police station.

‘The fact is that service levels and the ability to protect us as citizens is being severely hampered by a lack of resources,’ said Arbovlei CPF Chairman, Davie Coetzee.

‘And the day we need the SAPS in an emergency situation, we would not have helped matters by sitting back, blaming poor management, corruption, budget shortages and whatever other reasons, whether justified or not.

‘While we are sitting idle and pointing fingers, it is us, our families, our friends and our businesses that are at risk as criminals exploit the current state of affairs.

‘The vast majority of our policemen and -women are loyal and dedicated members able and willing to serve their community. The ability to address the challenges is simply beyond their control,’ said Coetzee.

The Arbovlei forum is inviting and challenging business owners to join them in a public-private partnership effort to equip the station to operate optimally.

‘One of the greatest challenges currently is the availability of vehicles owing to things like worn tyres, faulty brakes and other issues.

‘Many of these vehicles are not likely to be repaired soon due to issues such as the lengthy administrative processes involved and the continuing cuts in budgets.

‘I believe that it is time to take matters into our own hands and assist our local station,’ said Coetzee.

‘We have already had a good response from Ritchie Ford who did some vehicle brake repairs, Bluff Tyres who kindly replaced tyres on one of the SAPS mini-buses, and Midnite Electrical who are replacing some air-conditioners.’

Businesses willing to assist can contact Davie Coetzee on 082 8514626 or email: davie@dc-securitysolutions.com.
