SASSA cards still valid

SASSA beneficiaries do not need to withdraw all funds on the day they're available, they can be withdrawn throughout the month

THE South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has dismissed claims that the SASSA-SAPO card will expire on 31 March 2021.

Misinformation circulated on social media has prompted the agency to allay fears and assure beneficiaries that SASSA cards will continue to operate.

Although the cards will have to be replaced at some point, as indicated by the SA Reserve Bank report, no date has been set.

SASSA will share this information in due course.

SASSA has also clarified that all clients have the right to choose their payment method.

Clients currently being paid through the South Africa Post Office (SAPO) can continue to collect grants as before. Beneficiaries will still be paid using the current SASSA-SAPO card beyond April 2021.

This month, beneficiaries will receive older person’s grants from 3 February, while disability grants will be available from 4 February, followed by all other grants on 5 February.

SASSA beneficiaries are reminded that they do not have to withdraw their funds on the day they are available. Once in the account – including the SASSA/SAPO card account – the funds can be accessed anytime throughout the month.
