Richards Bay sailor rescued

The solo sailor had been heading from Port Elizabeth to Richards Bay when the incident occurred

THE National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) rescued a Richards Bay sailor after his yacht experienced engine failure this past weekend.

The solo sailor had been heading from Port Elizabeth to Richards Bay on Saturday when the incident occurred.

He requested NSRI assistance to enter the Port of Durban to repair his engine before continuing his trip.

‘Our sea rescue craft Alick Rennie rendezvoused with the yacht two nautical miles off-shore and without incident, the casualty yacht was towed to the Durban Marina and moored.’

‘No further assistance was required,’ said Roy Wienand, NSRI Durban deputy station commander.
