Become a NSRI volunteer

There is plenty of additional information online, but locals who are interested in becoming volunteers can call the base on 082 9905949

SEA Rescue in Richards Bay is calling on members of the public to sign on as volunteers.

‘Our rescue crews are all unpaid volunteers and we accept people of all ages and backgrounds. All you need to bring is yourself, your time and your desire to make a difference,’ says NSRI Station 19 Deputy Commander, Louise du Plessis, speaking as a fellow volunteer.

‘It doesn’t matter whether or not you are a skilled boater, and don’t worry about the experience you may or may not have – we will teach you everything you need to know to become a meaningful Sea Rescue volunteer.

‘Through our training programmes, we will challenge you physically and mentally, and you will grow faster than you thought possible,’ says Louise.

‘Volunteering is a commitment, but there are wonderful rewards in being part of an exciting and dynamic team that saves lives at sea and creates futures for the people of South Africa on land.

‘Sea Rescue will become your second family where you will learn many new skill sets that will help you grow as a person while contributing to your community.’

The work of NSRI volunteers is extremely diverse and can range from going out to sea to effect rescues to lifeguarding, teaching swimming and water safety, assisting with the Pink Rescue Buoy campaign, fundraising, or maintaining the vehicles, boats and equipment and ensuring the base itself is well preserved.

There is plenty of additional information online, but locals who are interested in becoming volunteers can call the base on 082 9905949.
