The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has predicted more rainfall for the province until tomorrow (Friday), which will likely result in further improvement of dam levels.

The Department of Water and Sanitation’s (DWS) weekly status report of dams indicates that KZN levels are at 52.2% this week, a slight increase compared to last week’s 51.6%, and on par with last year’s figure of 52.2%.

In the Zululand region, the Goedertrouw Dam, which is supplied by the Mhlathuze River, currently stands at 51.3% compared to last week’s 51.1%.

Pongolapoort, however, remained unchanged at 39.6%, placing it among three other dams in the province below 40% capacity.

Hluhluwe Dam is at 66.1%, a decline compared to its 67.2% capacity recorded last week.

DWS spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau, reiterated the plea for residents to ‘refrain from wasting water as the province is not out of the woods yet despite the signs of recovery’.
