WATCH: Richards Bay water pipe repair completed but road remains closed

It is understood that road repairs could be finished within a week

THE broken water mains pipe at the intersection of Saligna and North Central Arterial has been replaced, with just the infilling of sand remaining yesterday (Monday) before tarring could commence.

Arboretum Extension was without water from 6am on Sunday, but the taps were finally receiving supply by 9pm.

A solid bed was compacted under the new 600mm PVC pipe which replaced the old metal pipe that had burst, and the new pipe is enclosed in a cement sleeve.

It is understood that material for the road repair has already been ordered and residents could be back driving on the extremely busy Saligna thoroughfare, where commuting has been a nightmare during peak hours, within a week.
