WATCH: Richards Bay crocodile evades trap

Feeding of the crocodile is strictly forbidden as this will encourage it to stay in the area

THE recreational beach at the Small Craft Harbour in Richards Bay remains out of bounds, despite the predicted hot weekend, as the crocodile that has been seen over the past two weeks has, to date, evaded all trapping efforts.

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, Ezemvelo honorary officers and water wing SAPS are working closely to trap the crocodile so it can be relocated elsewhere.

While it cannot be caught with a net or wrestled in the water, a trap is the only option and, while the abovementioned authorities are monitoring it daily, it continues to evade the trap.

The sporting and recreation clubs have issued stern warnings against swimming in the vicinity, as has the SAPS.

Feeding of the crocodile is strictly forbidden as this will encourage it to stay in the area.

This will, in turn, jeopardise the safety of not only people, but the crocodile too.
