Ntuli addressed the media last Tuesday during the official opening of the Nkongolwane pedestrian bridge in Vryheid.

The bridge links Nkongolwane communities to the Shongololo area.

‘This bridge will help community members, especially children, from the Nkongolane area to cross the river safely.

‘There is no school in Nkongolwane and children are forced to cross the river daily when going to school. During heavy rains, learners struggle to get across,’ Ntuli said.

The MEC also attended a roadblock on the P34 where the roadworthiness of vehicles was checked, as well as whether drivers had appropriate driver’s licences.

‘Earlier this year 10 people lost their lives on this road, so we appeal to all road users to respect the rules of the road and observe the speed limits to avoid the carnage.

‘As a department we have done everything possible to promote road safety, it is now up to the road users to play their part,’ Ntuli said.
