Partnership for a sustainable future

Mondi focuses on stewardship of forests, forest plantations, climate, energy and freshwater

In 2014, Mondi entered into a global partnership with WWF focused on promoting environmental stewardship in the packaging and paper sector.

We are continuing to focus on stewardship of forests, forest plantations, climate, energy and freshwater – both in our own operations and through engaging others.

To meet customer needs and at the same time reduce our impact on the environment, we are tackling three of today’s biggest challenges: deforestation, water scarcity and climate change.

Highlights of the WWF partnership to date

  • With WWF South Africa we continue to promote water stewardship using landscape approach that focuses on wetlands and freshwater.

  • We continue to work with WWF and other New Generation Plantations (NGP) Platform participants to help expand to use of the concept to other forest types and agriculture.

  • We have supported the development of the WWF Water Risk Filter and are currently testing the revised Water Risk Filter tool 5.0 at our pulp and paper mills to categorise the water risk of our operations. Through this collaboration we have increased our understanding of current and potential future water impacts, as well as potential risks to our business related to water availability, allocation and costs.

  • Mondi joined the WWF Climate Saver’s Programme in 2018. The Climate Savers Programme is WWF’s global platform to engage businesses and industries on climate and energy. We are working towards settling long-term GHG targets using science-based methodology.
