Scam alert! IEC warns jobseekers

A job scam by fraudsters posing as the IEC is doing the rounds on social media

THE Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has warned jobseekers about fraudsters posing as the IEC, using fake online job advertisements to obtain personal information.

IEC spokesperson, Kate Bapela said a recent advert circulated on WhatsApp and other social media states an ‘Election Committee’ has announced 50 000 vacancies for young people.

‘This is not a legitimate advert. The message asks people to submit their personal information to complete the application process.

‘The email address and logo used in the message are not the commission’s, but unsuspecting jobseekers may easily mistake the advert as legitimate.’

Bapela explained the IEC only advertises job vacancies on its official website, www.elections.org.za.
