R3-million dagga haul seized near Hluhluwe

The suspects are expected to appear at Mtubatuba Magistrate's Court on Friday

SIX people suspected of being in the country illegally were last night (Wednesday) arrested on the N2 freeway, their large dagga haul confiscated.

Acting on a tip-off about two vehicles smuggling dagga across the border between Swaziland and South Africa, Hluhluwe police officers spotted two vehicles on the N2 near the Phinda exit.

The vehicles were stopped and searched, and were founded to be loaded with bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R3-million.

The suspects, aged between 23 and 42, were placed under arrest.

They are suspected of being in the country illegally as they could not produce the required documents.

They are expected to appear at Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Friday).
