More than a dozen dead in taxi accident

It is believed that the taxi was travelling from Nongoma to Durban when the collision occurred

Five people are in hospital in a critical condition following this (Wednesday) morning’s head-on accident between a taxi and truck.

The incident occurred on a wet road on the R66 between Melmoth and Ulundi.

Paramedics who attended the tragic scene declared 13 people dead while the five injured were rushed to KwaMagwaza Hospital in Melmoth.

It is believed that the taxi was travelling from Nongoma to Durban when the collision occurred. Paramedics are on scene, treating the injured.

The road is closed and traffic is severely backed up. Motorists are urged to avoid the area until the scene has been cleared.
