Gogo’s Boy takes his final bow

LOCAL journalist, playwright and poet, Wellington Makwakwa will take audiences back to the magic of the ’90s with his one-man show, Gogo’s Boy: The Last Bow at the Bon Hotel in Empangeni (garden area) on Friday at 7pm.

For the last showing of this popular performance, Makwakwa will outline his story of being raised by a strict grandmother in the rural heart of Zululand, intertwined with music, dance and poetry.

He will bring the unique relationship of grandmother and grandson to life, taking on different characters including past teachers, friends and even his grandmother.

The play, which is entertaining and moving, reveals his journey to becoming a writer and storyteller, driven to uplift his community and the arts.

The production is directed by award-winning theatre and music director, Bongani Ngcobo, of Indabuko African Orchestra, and will raise funds for the annual Wellington’s Christmas Lunch with Gogos.
