Ulundi family receives new home

The recipients were wheelchair-bound, Emellina Buthelezi-Hadebe (80), Nobuhle Dlamini, and six other family members

A ULUNDI family, which was among 221 families that lost homes to strong winds in December, welcomed the donation of a five-bedroom home by the local municipality last week.

The handover, held in the Thwasana area, was attended by IFP president, Velenkosini Hlabisa, and IFP president emeritus, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, as guests of Ulundi Municipality.

The recipients were wheelchair-bound, Emellina Buthelezi-Hadebe (80), Nobuhle Dlamini, and six other family members.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Dlamini said they were grateful for what the municipality had done for them.

‘At first, it was hard to believe that we would get a house,’ said Dlamini.

‘We had no hope that my mother would ever have a proper house, as no one was working. We are so thankful.’

Ulundi mayor, Wilson Ntshangase, explained that after last year’s winds, local councillor, Lindo Yaka, visited the affected family and compiled a report.

‘Even though we are not mandated to provide houses to the community, we can’t turn a blind eye, so the municipality took a decision to set aside a budget of R25 000 to build this house.’
