Covid-19: South Africa drops to 10th in the world for total infections

While South Africa's continued downward trajectory in active Covid-19 cases is cause for optimism, appropriate protocol including social distancing, the wearing of masks and hand sanitising remains in place

DESPITE increased freedom under lockdown Level 1, South Africa’s active Covid-19 cases continue to drop overall, albeit slower than prior to Level 1.

South Africa’s Covid-19 stats as of Friday morning
Total recoveries: 618 771 (644 more than yesterday)
Active cases: 50 712 (932 more than yesterday).
Total confirmed cases: 686 891
Total number of deaths: 17 408

South Africa is now tenth in the world with total infections, while the USA remains at the top of the list with 7 833 763 cases, India is second with 6 906 151 cases, and Brazil is third with 5 029 539 cases.

Total recoveries: 27 674 406
Total deaths: 1 066 983

Despite the continued upward spiral in confirmed cases worldwide, serious or critical cases remain at 1% among the 8 022 261 currently infected people. Of the 28 741 389 closed cases globally, the death rate is 4%.

While South Africa’s continued downward trajectory in active Covid-19 cases is cause for optimism, appropriate protocol including social distancing, the wearing of masks and hand sanitising remains in place.
