AFTER having to adjust their winter training regimes owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, local swimmers were geared up and revving to go when competing in the Fish Eagles short course gala held at the Arboretum swimming pool on Saturday.

Getting back on the blocks was fun, even though certain rules had to be changed because of the Level 1 restrictions.

These included demarcated blocked areas where swimmers sat in order to stick to social distancing rules.

Starting blocks were cleaned after every race and spectators were not present at the event.

All timekeepers and coaches wore masks and competitors limited their interaction in-between events.

But despite all the doom and gloom, a number of personal best times were recorded and swimmers showed great form despite the lack of training during the strict lockdown period.

Swimmers will be back in action on Saturday, 17 October when they compete in the King Cetshwayo district aquatics October age group gala at Arboretum.

The Fish Eagles Swimming Club’s annual general meeting will be held at 2pm after the event.
