African unity emphasised in Heritage Month

The event formed part of AfriSoC's social cohesion programme

Promoting social cohesion, the African Solidarity Campaign (AfriSoC) hosted its Heritage Month celebration under the theme – ‘Our Heritage, our people united in our diversity’ at Empangeni Civic Centre last week.

The event formed part of AfriSoC’s social cohesion programme, providing a platform for local leaders, organisations and the public to engage in dialogues focused on economic inclusion, safety and security, and equality.

Guest speaker at the event, King Cetshwayo District municipal mayor, Nonhle Mkhulisi, said she was inspired by AfriSoC’s work, and called on citizens to work together on these issues.

‘Xenophobia and in-fighting among our people is of concern, and while we are a rich continent, we are not maximising this, rather we continue to fight with each other,’ said Mkhulisi.

‘Now is the time for change. We should share what we have in Africa with our people, and promote more development of infrastructure.’
