eShowe protesters dispersed

By 8.30am the burning debris had been cleared and the road was reopened

THE P50 between eShowe and Ntumeni was earlier this (Tuesday) morning blocked by protesters demanding water.

Burning debris was used to prevent motorists travelling on the road.

SAPS attended the scene and by 8.30am the road had been cleared and was reopened.

The eShowe area has been gripped by service delivery and water-related protests in recent weeks as communities fight for their right to running water.

In July, the R102, R66, R34 and P230 routes were affected by protesters who blocked the roads with burning debris as they protested the same cause.

They had been without running water for days on end as the King Cetshwayo District Municipality accused Water and Sanitation Services South Africa (WSSA) employees of denying access to municipal workers and a new service provider, to provide the service.

It is at this stage unclear whether or not today’s protest was linked to the July protests.
