PPE tender scam does the rounds

The fraudster reportedly asks the victim to confirm their bank account numbers and physical addresses

THE KZN Department of Education has warned the public against a scam regarding the awarding of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) tenders.

The department’s spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi said that members of the public have been receiving calls where they are asked to confirm personal details such as their bank account numbers and physical addresses.

‘The caller is telling the people that the award for the PPE tender is about to be finalised,’said Mahlambi.

‘He then promises them a tender award on condition they make payment to him.

‘Seemingly, he starts at R50 000 and goes down to R2 000.’
