Covid-19: SA’s active cases now just a fraction of the recoveries

While South Africa's statistics are reason to be positive, all protocols that will remain in place after the move to Level 1 - including mask wearing, sanitising and social distancing - must still be adhered to, to ensure the numbers continue to drop

AS South Africa gears up to welcome alert Level 1, the country’s rate of Covid-19 recoveries is edging ever closer to the 600 000 mark, while active cases as of 2pm this (Friday) afternoon are well below the 60 000 mark.

Exact figures see active cases at 54 497, recoveries at 585 303, total confirmed cases at 655 572 and total deaths at 15 772.

In the 24 hours between yesterday and today, South Africa saw an increase in deaths of 67 and an increase in recoveries of 1 108.
South Africa is eighth on the global list of Covid-19 cases.

Of the 30 283 219 Covid-19 cases worldwide, 22 064 199 people have recovered while 951 176 deaths have been recorded.

Of the 7 367 844 active cases around the world, it is still only 1% (61 163) that are deemed serious or critical.

Of the 23 015 375 closed cases the world over, 4% (951 176) were fatal.

While South Africa’s statistics are reason to be positive, all protocols that will remain in place after the move to Level 1 – including mask wearing, sanitising and social distancing – must still be adhered to, to ensure the numbers continue to drop.
