Talking about gynaecological issues and sexual health not taboo

International Gynaecological Awareness Day aims to share knowledge and experiences with the community in an effort to remove cultural and sexual taboos and build confidence within oneself

TALKS on women’s health relating to gynaecological issues are often dubbed taboo or seen as a sensitive subject that must be kept private.

But in the wake of International Gynaecological Awareness Day – 10 September – which is commemorated around the globe, communities are called on to empower people to lift the veil on gynaecological issues by celebrating the beauty that is a woman’s femininity.

This day is the brainchild of Kath Mazzella, a courageous vulvar cancer survivor who has turned her pain into gain and is working hard to ensure that women have the support and the voice they need to cope with such gynaecological conditions.

The aim of International Gynaecological Awareness Day is to bring professionals and health consumers together for the betterment of gynaecological/sexual health awareness and to continue to share knowledge and experiences with the community in an effort to remove cultural and sexual taboos and build confidence within oneself.

It also serves to raise awareness of gynaecological and sexual health matters and provide information on specific gynaecological issues in an open and friendly forum.
