No load-shedding Thursday night or Friday

The system remains vulnerable and unpredictable

THE snapped Medupi conveyor belt on which the threat of load-shedding hung, has been repaired.

As a result, no load-shedding is expected tonight (Thursday) or Friday, although Eskom has reiterated that the system remains constricted and vulnerable, so citizens should continue to use electricity sparingly.

The power utility said that should any significant breakdowns occur, load-shedding may have to be implemented at short notice.

The conveyor belt in question feeds coal to four generation units at the Medupi power station, rendering them unable to generate electricity when the belt snapped on Wednesday night.

Repairs were concluded late this afternoon.

Unplanned Eskom breakdowns amount to 10 909MW of capacity, adding to the 5 831MW currently out on planned maintenance.
