They are expected to appear in court again next Monday for formal bail applications.

uMkhanyakude cluster police spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, confirmed the arrest.

Mdletshe said a truck driver driving along the N2 in the Mfekayi area was accosted by five suspects armed with bush knives last Thursday.

‘The victim alleges he was driving behind a tractor which suddenly stopped. Before he could overtake, a car stopped next to him on the right hand side, and five suspects armed with bush knives alighted and jumped into the truck.

‘They pushed their victim to the back seat and tied his hands, but he fought back and escaped through the passenger door. He ran into the bushes, where he spent the night,’ Mdletshe said.

The following day the victim managed to reach a police station to report the matter.

‘The KwaMsane Police Task Team followed up on the Crime Intelligence Unit’s information, which led to the arrest of the suspects.

‘Three cell phones, a radio and a bag were taken from the victim during the robbery. All four suspects were positively identified by the victim.

‘We believe the suspects have been involved in a string of robbery incidents in the area,’ Mdletshe said.
