Ndlovu said he frequently uses the greenbelt en route to work and recognised the victim as a homeless man who lived in the bush.

‘I saw him lying there on Wednesday morning, but thought he might be high or passed out drunk, so I thought nothing more of it,’ said Ndlovu.

‘But when I saw him still lying in the same position the next morning, I went closer to see if he was alright.

‘That’s when I noticed the dog leash around his neck. I ran to work to notify my employer, who called the police.’

An inquest docket was registered at Empangeni SAPS for investigation.
