What’s on in Richards Bay and Empangeni this weekend

Some virtual, some real-life, here are some upcoming events to diarise

LOCKDOWN Level 2 has arrived and social events are permitted provided strict protocols are followed.

Here are some events in and around Richards Bay and Empangeni, as well as further afield, both this weekend and beyond.

SATURDAY, 29 August, 9am – 3pm – Market Meander

It’s just like a ‘normal’ market, only different. It’s the new normal.

Meandering throughout Richards Bay, there will be a variety of market stalls at various addresses in Meerensee, Veldenvlei, Arboretum, Birdswood and Alton.

Goodies on sale include jewellery, clothing, wood creations, antiques and collectables, bonsai plants, pottery, jams and jellies, as well as many options of scrumptious food and coffee, and much, much more.

In total, 16 stalls are participating in this inaugural Market Meander.

For details on collecting information packs, visit the Market Meander’s Facebook page or contact Wendy on 082 4101607.

SATURDAY, 5 SEPTEMBER, 9am – midday – Hluhluwe farmers’ market

Having grown from a single stall to seven market stalls, the fourth monthly Hluhluwe farmers’ market is just around the corner.

Homemade sewing, delicious baked goodies, fresh fruit and vegetables, pot plants as well as scrumptious food and coffee will all be on offer.

The market venue is Sibayeni Nursery and Ilala Weavers, at 1 Ngweni Road.

For more information, visit the Hluhluwe farmers’ market Facebook page.

ENDING 31 August – CANSA Jail ‘n Bail

Time is almost up – will the jailbirds be set free?

Richards Bay residents Debbie Ferreira, Michelle Michael and Tania Algar are behind bars and need your help to be released!

This annual fun fund-raising initiative in aid of CANSA Richards Bay is being held virtually this year and supporters have until the end of the month to donate towards setting the jailbirds free.

Donations can be made via GivenGain – www.givengain.com/ap/cansa-richards-bay-jail-n-bail/ OR by EFT – CANSA: ABSA 4069840578, ref. JnB + name of jailbird.

ENDING 31 August – Competition fund-raiser for Richards Bay SPCA

IT’S competition time at the Richards Bay SPCA and some wonderful prizes are up for grabs!

Most children love animals and this is the time for parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles to brag about their children or grandchildren.

All you need to do is send a short video clip of your child, grandchild, neice or nephew (aged between 4 and 8 years) explaining in their own words what the SPCA does.

This is a fund-raising initiative for the SPCA and is R100 per entry.

Tickets can be bought at the Richards Bay SPCA office at Bayview Boulevard in Meerensee during working hours (8am – 3pm, Monday – Friday).

All videos will be viewed by the SPCA committee members who will choose a winner.

SATURDAY, 5 September: SANCA walk away from drugs goes virtual

This, the 14th annual 5km fun walk is open to anyone who would like to participate.
