Zululand nurses support destitute brothers

The hospital staff donated groceries to the struggling brothers

NURSES at Nkonjeni Hospital in Mahlabathini celebrated Women’s Month by showing love to two destitute brothers of Mthinzima Reserve.

Sakhiseni (39) and Lungani (35) Ngobese are unemployed. They had to drop out of school because of financial constraints, lost their parents at a young age and have no immediate families or extended family to support them.

The hospital’s Silindile Mthimkhulu said nurses and doctors working at the hospital medical ward contributed towards a donation.

‘This is our seventh community outreach this year. We began with our back to school campaign, donating school uniforms to needy children.

‘We have also undertaken numerous community projects, donating food parcels and other goods required by needy community members.

‘As this is Women’s Month, we decided to spread some love by visiting the Ngobese brothers to donate groceries,’ Mthimkhulu said.

The brothers’ neighbour, Madludla Zulu, said the men survive by doing piece jobs.

‘In most cases, people who do not have a source of income steal to survive, but these two are very respectful.

‘We are very pleased about the donation, but the brothers face a huge challenge as they do not have a proper house.

This winter I had to provide them with blankets as the cold was killing them,’ the neighbour said.
