Msweli, a software developer from Nordale, has joined a team of women leaders from around the world who were selected by Google to ‘excel in technology’.

Speaking to the ZO, Nombuso said she was excited about the opportunity to represent the country, the region and her university abroad.

‘It’s a dream come true and proves women can excel in the world of information technology.

‘Many women apply to be part of the WTM programme and it makes me really happy to be one of the selected few,’ she said.

Nombuso showed signs of leadership and exceptional IT skills when she became a project manager at Varsity Genie – an educational organisation aiming to make education fashionable among the youth.

Her team hosts tech-based events on campus and were selected to participate in the 2020 Peace Summit for emerging leaders in Thailand.

Nombuso recently hosted her first webinar, titled ‘Reframe your mind for a career in technology’, in commemoration of Women’s Day on Google Meet.

The event was aimed at female information and communication technology students and graduates.

‘We talked about leadership and entrepreneurship for women in tech, volunteer work and learning extra skills, as well as discussing struggles faced by females during studying and after graduating,’ said Msweli.

Her biggest goal is to bring technology to rural areas and work with women-based organisations to uplift women in leadership and entrepreneurship.
