Covid-19: South Africa’s recoveries keep climbing

While this is positive news, South Africans are urged to continue following regulations including social distancing, sanitising and the wearing of masks, particularly as lockdown restrictions become more relaxed under lockdown Level 2

SOUTH Africa’s active Covid-19 cases are steadily decreasing, while the country’s recoveries are nearing the half-million mark.

As of 10am this (Friday) morning, the total number of recoveries in South Africa is 497 169, while the active cases have dipped to below 100 000.

The country’s total number of recorded cases has reached 599 940.

With a decrease of 2 043 active cases in the 24 hours between yesterday morning and this morning, South Africa’s total active cases sit at 90 153.

In the same 24 hours, the death rate climbed by 195 to 12 618.

In the past week alone, South Africa’s Covid-19 recovery rate has climbed by about 60 000 – an increase of 10 000 compared with the previous week.

During this time, the total active cases in the country have fallen by more than 30 000.

Globally, 15 527 216 Covid-19 patients have recovered, out of a total of 22 874 533 cases, with 797 271 deaths worldwide.

Of the total number of cases around the globe, 16 324 487 are closed (cases which had an outcome), and 6 550 046 are active.

Of these global active cases, just 1% are considered serious or critical.
