‘The city is now working with all involved planners, constructors and consultants, in identifying challenges, as well as methods of mitigating them,’ said City of uMhlathuze communications manager, Mdu Ncalane.

‘The project will resume when all plans have been approved by relevant stakeholders, including government departments.’

The construction of the township’s major intersection began in 2018 after residents voiced their concerns about the dangers presented by narrow roads.

The massive upgrade was initiated, which includes the rehabilitation of Mdlebe Ntshona Road, the refurbishment of the south-side of Mthombothi Road, the widening of the P535 culvert, the upgrade of the monument area, restoration of stormwater drains and pedestrian walkways, the expansion of the traffic circle, and the beautification of the township’s entrance which includes a park.

‘We plead for consideration from all road users during the upgrade, as there might be traffic delays,’ said Ncalane.
