Walkways are swamped by rubbish

Last year the city introduced a system for landowners or developers to produce proof from approved dumpsites where rubble generated from construction activities is disposed.

According to the city, illegal dumping control programmes are in place and focuses on community involvement and targeted enforcement to eliminate or reduce the practice.

Discarded bottles are found all over the township and pose a danger to pedestrians, especially children

‘We have municipal skips all over the area in which people can dump their garbage.

‘We plead with residents to obey the dumping rules and make use of legal sites and our skips. ‘We all have to work together to ensure our health and safety are not compromised,’ the municipality said in a statement.

Residents are urged to report any illegal dumping to the municipality.
