Budding writers invited to unmask a mystery and win big

Youngsters encouraged to pen an authentic dialogue for a play, movie or for use in a story in the Word Warrior competition

EVERY year, READ Educational Trust encourages budding young authors to challenge their creativity in the Word Warrior Competition.

The competition encourages creativity and imagination in young writers and offers the winner R5 000 worth of books for their school and a R1 000 cash prize.

Parents and teachers are encouraged to promote the competition and in so doing, help the READ Education Trust to discover some South African writing talent.

The 2019 competition yielded a high literary standard, and the 2020 competition continues to focus on Word Warrior character and furry hero, the foxy Detective Inkomba.

Entrants aged nine to 16 are required to write fresh, authentic dialogue for a play, a movie or to use in a story.

Allowing their imaginations to run wild, entrants must create a scenario where Detective Inkomba solves a mystery of sorts from setting off on an interplanetary travel, engaging in covert affairs, local affairs or even a love affair.

Entries close on 31 October and entrants are invited to view the sample scene, dialogue extract and conclusion, by clicking on the following link: https://www.read.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Word-Warrior-Competition-2020.pdf
