The website falsely claims that ‘workers who have worked between 1990 and 2020 have the right to receive R35 000 from Department of Labour’.

Unsuspecting victims are encouraged to check if their names appear on a list and to send their bank details.

‘The Department of Employment and Labour has not asked anyone to come forward to receive these benefits, and would never do so in this manner,’ explained the department’s spokesperson, Teboho Thejane.

‘All the benefits from the department are received by people who have worked at the department, or are entitled to receive them.

These are processed at our 125 offices across the country.’ Thejane urged the public not to share this false information.

‘When in doubt, members of the public are advised to contact the Department of Employment and Labour provincial offices, or the nearest Labour Centre,’ he said.
