SOUTH Africa has seen more than 11 000 Covid-19 recoveries in the 24 hours since yesterday (Thursday) morning and an impressive 100 000 recoveries in just the past nine days.

Of the total number of closed cases, South Africa has experienced a 98% recovery rate.

As of 9am this morning, South Africa’s total number of confirmed cases sat at 482 169; our country’s total number of active cases was 172 568; recoveries were 309 601; and deaths totalled 7 812.

For the past 13 days, South Africa’s active cases remained between 160 000 and 170 000.

Almost three million tests have been conducted countrywide to date.

Globally, there are 17 219 767 cases in total, with 10 077 766 recoveries and 671 009 deaths.

While in South Africa the recovery rate is cause for optimism, this does not mean we should become complacent with regard to health and safety precautions.

Social distancing, a ban on mass gatherings, the wearing of masks, and regular sanitising remain in place for the foreseeable future.

If all citizens are vigilant in implementing these protocols until the government states otherwise, our country has every reason to enjoy a continued upward spiral of recoveries.
