Four perish in N2 head-on collision

An Audi and a bakkie collided, the Audi bursting into flames on impact

THIS (Monday) morning’s accident involving an Audi and a bakkie on the N2 near Mandeni claimed the lives of four people.

It is alleged that the driver of the Audi, which was reportedly heavily laden with cannabis, lost control on the wet roads.

The Audi collided head-on with a bakkie and burst into flames on impact.

IPSS Medical Rescue paramedics arrived on scene to find the burning vehicle with two entrapped occupants.

‘A second vehicle also had two occupants within the vehicle,’ said IPSS.

‘The passenger of the second vehicle (the bakkie) was severely entrapped and was declared deceased on scene.’

The driver of the same vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries, and advanced life support paramedics from IPSS and Lenmed eThekwini Heart Hospital worked to stabilise the man, who is believed to be an off-duty RTI officer.

‘Unfortunately, shortly after advanced life support resuscitation was initiated, the patient went into cardiac arrest and was declared deceased by paramedics.’

The exact cause of the accident is under police investigation.
