A SHORT drive through the Bahati Game Farm and Caravan Park in Hluhluwe yesterday (Saturday) afternoon for Du Toit and France Pretorius treated the couple to a sighting usually reserved for the warmer months.
Across the width of the road in front of their vehicle lay a huge African python, seemingly in the process of slithering across the dirt road when the young couple happened upon it.

In the video, the snake can be seen heading across the road in one direction before changing its mind and going in the other direction towards the cover of long grass.
France estimated the snake to be over 2m in length.
On seeing the video, Empangeni snake handler Fred Lubbe said the snake could have been as long as 5m.
While snakes are most active in summer, the Zululand winter is not particularly cold and so, on mild winter days, these reptiles come out of hiding to seek the warmth of the sun.
