MEC supports needy Ingwavuma schools

Sanitary packs, blankets, sports kit and school uniforms were handed over to the learners

KZN MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Hlengiwe Mavimbela, recently donated 50 sanitary packs, 75 blankets, sports kit and school uniforms to two schools in the Mbambhanana area in Ingwavuma.

Mavimbela committed to help Nkulisweni Primary School and Phungaza High School earlier this year.

She said the donation was part of a KZN Legislature directive, which required each member to adopt four institutions.

‘After visiting these schools earlier this year, I discovered they faced some challenges and decided to return to offer assistance.

‘At Phungaza High School, we handed over school uniforms to 136 learners, but we were unable to provide the primary school learners with uniforms at this stage as our sponsor had to focus on overcoming some Covid-19 pandemic challenges.

‘We only provided them with blankets and food parcels. We did so because we know that most of the community members living in this region are struggling to make ends meet.

‘We will keep visiting these institutions of learning.

‘Phungaza High School also raised the issue of toilet facilities. Construction is currently under way and before the end of the week temporary toilets will be delivered to the school,’ she said.
