Big bundle of joy for Romeo and Juliet at Thula Thula

This is the second large animal species to have been born at the reserve during lockdown, after rhino Mona gave birth to baby Sissi in March

THERE was great joy at Thula Thula Private Game Reserve at the weekend when a baby hippo made a surprise arrival.

Rangers are unsure whether the cute and cuddly – but not so small – bundle of joy, offspring of Romeo and Juliet, is male or female.

It was given the neutral name Jo, named after her ‘godmother’, London-based Jo Malone, a wonderful friend and part of the Thula Thula family.

This is the second large animal species to have been born at the reserve during lockdown, after rhino Mona gave birth to baby Sissi in March.

Staff are now hoping the old adage that ‘things happen in threes’ will prove true – and that a baby elephant will arrive soon!
