Covid-19: Thirteen licensing centres closed across KZN

The public will be informed when operations resume at each branch

THIRTEEN licensing centres in KZN have been temporarily shut down – including eShowe, Nongoma and Hlabisa – because of positive Covid-19 cases reported at the facilities.

The KZN Department of Transport said on Tuesday that all affected buildings are being deep-cleaned and disinfected.

The department said the public will be informed when operations resume at each branch.

‘As a precautionary measure, all services have been suspended with immediate effect and infected staff members have since gone into self-isolation and will follow all the necessary Covid-19 protocols.’

The 13 centres that have been affected are:
* eShowe
* Vryheid
* Howick
* Mooi River
* Underberg-KwaSani
* Hlabisa
* Richmond
* Utrecht
* Nongoma
* Newcastle RTI
* Rossburgh RTI
* Pinetown RTI
* Mkondeni RTI

People whose learner’s and driver’s licence tests have been affected by the closures will be contacted to arrange alternative test dates at no additional cost.

Car dealerships and members of the public are urged to use other centres that have not been affected.

This is in addition to more than 39 post offices and municipalities operating as registering authorities.

A 90-days grace period was approved by the minister of transport for the renewal of vehicle licences that have expired.
