‘Affected employees will be working from home to ensure that service delivery is not compromised,’ said municipal spokesperson, Mdu Ncalane.

‘The public were also requested to leave the building immediately when the cases became known, to avoid the possible spread of the virus.

‘The city will continue with all operations remotely, using the 24-hour toll-free line as well as online platforms until the offices are reopened.’

Ncalane said essential services such as water, sanitation, refuse removal and electricity supply would continue operating as normal.

‘The city’s management and task team is working with lightning speed to trace all the people who might have been in close contact with the infected employees, as well as to disinfect the whole building as soon as possible.’

Ncalane said the King Cetshwayo Department of Health is assisting the city in testing all identified persons.

He said the city would issue updates when the offices will reopen.
