The guards were tied up while the robbers ransacked the clothing store

According to the police, one security guard said he was on duty on Wednesday night when two men at the glass doors of one of the entrances signalled for him to open the doors.

He told them the centre was closed, but while patrolling level three of the centre, he heard a door breaking and soon found himself surrounded by six men, two of whom were armed.

They demanded his cellphone and led him up the escalators where his colleagues were stationed; they were also threatened and their cellphones taken.

The guards were tied up while the robbers ransacked the clothing store.

The store manager told police he received a call at around 9pm that night when the alarm was activated.

Upon arrival, he discovered that the door had been forced open.

Camera footage shows that the suspects fled in a VW Polo.

Police used signals from the stolen cellphones to track down the criminals. This led them to Empangeni Rail, but the suspects could not be located.
