Food parcels bring relief to needy Ulundi families

Ulundi Municipality partnered with the private sector to assist those in need

ULUNDI Deputy Mayor Gabi Madela donated food parcels to nine needy families in the Kwashishwili Reserve (Ward 11) last week.

Madela said the donation was part of the Covid-19 social relief programme, aimed at supporting needy communities struggling to make ends meet.

‘The municipality has asked the private sector to help with donations. These food parcels were donated by a local funeral company.

‘When we approached them, they didn’t hesitate to assist the needy.’

Madela urged the public to stay at home and observe all the lockdown regulations and safety protocols.

One beneficiary, Jabulile Mkhabela, was overjoyed to receive the food parcels.

‘It came as a surprise and we did not expect it, but now we will at least have something to cook for our families. This lockdown has hit us hard, and we can’t even do piece jobs like we used to do to earn an income,’ she said.
