Major water infrastructure projects launched in Nkandla
A number of water projects valued at R123-million will benefit thousands of households
KING Cetshwayo district Mayor, Nonhle Mkhulisi, recently launched a series of water infrastructure projects in the Nkandla municipal area.
Worth more than R7-million, one of the projects includes stabilising the eroded Nkandla weir.

An engineer is being appointed to undertake a feasibility study of what is required.
Other projects are the Golozeli water supply project and the Golokodo and Mhloshana water supply extensions, the Ngomankulu and Ezijibeni spring developments and the Nkungwini extension for wards 11 and 2.
These are part of a number of water intervention projects worth R123-million which will benefit thousands of households across the district.
The relocation of the Gingindlovu raw water abstraction point 2.5km along the Amatikulu River at a cost of R2-million will also be prioritised.
Allocations have also been made to the uMfolozi and Mthonjaneni municipalities.
‘Another major project is the R45-million water conservation strategy to curb water loss ratios,’ said Mkhulisi.
‘This involves the analysis and assessment of the network, repair to infrastructure, installation of smart control valves and gadgets, as well as community educational drives to help reduce water losses.’
