Dodgy drive for Richards Bay’s night shift workers

Massive potholes on Dune Road in Meerensee wreak havoc for drivers

TWO huge potholes on Dune Road, the high-traffic link between Meerensee and Mzingazi, are proving a costly and dangerous risk to motorists.

This is especially true for those who travel the route at night, including staff and contractors travelling to Richards Bay Minerals, two of whose vehicles reported wheels and tyres destroyed in the darkness over the weekend.

Daytime drivers are no better off, as the potholes are on a blind corner approach between Loodvislyn and Pienkie Pool.

To avoid the danger, most motorists travelling towards Meerensee are ducking into the opposing lane, risking the chance of a head-on collision.

Others are taking to the pavement on the left side, squeezing between telephone poles and the deep holes.

‘This needs to be repaired urgently, before someone is killed,’ one contractor said on Monday morning.
